Meet Sagal Abdi-Wali
Sagal Abdi-Wali is Labour’s candidate for the Holborn and St Pancras by-election on Thursday 8 October 2026.
She is the Leader of Camden Council and, in May 2026, became the first Black woman to lead the borough.
Who is Sagal Abdi-Wali?
Sagal came to Camden as a child refugee in the 1990s after fleeing war-torn Somalia.
Camden became her home and gave her family safety, opportunity and support through local schools and community services. For more than 20 years, Sagal has given back to the community through volunteering and work to improve people’s lives across the borough.
She is now standing to represent the place she calls home.
Sagal’s priorities for Holborn and St Pancras
Sagal wants to help give people the same thing Camden gave her: a safe and secure place to call home.
More affordable housing
As Leader of Camden Council, Sagal secured £670 million for council housing.
She will support the regeneration of Camley Street, helping to provide hundreds of new genuinely affordable homes for local people.
Support for people experiencing homelessness
Sagal will back Andy Burnham’s commitment to ensure that people experiencing homelessness have a route off the streets.
Stronger local communities
Sagal believes that everyone should have the opportunity to build a secure future. Her work is rooted in Camden and in listening to residents about the issues that matter most to them.
